Are Your Lap Band Plans A Failure ?
With gastric band surgery becoming the de-facto standard treatment for obesity, the overall results are starting to look quite amazing. But with the patients having trouble from the hopeful to the downright frustrated, you will have to ask yourself the question before you begin your journey. Is your plan for getting rid of your excess weight a success or a failure?
The first thing that you should be aware of about lap band surgery is that it is not for everyone. Like any other surgical procedure, banding is an extremely inconvenient procedure that should only be performed on overweight people who are considered to be candidates. In short, this is not a procedure for ” youngsters until their 18th birthday” or for those who are less than 100 lbs. If you have tried dieting and please and rarely are successful, then although gastric banding is still a heavy-duty option, you may want to look into sleeve surgery instead.
The starting point for your plan is to determine if you are a candidate. You will only ever have this surgery in a though that you are considered for it. Ultimately, the surgeon will determine this based on your BMI. If you are considered to have a BMI of 40 or higher and have failed at more traditional methods for losing pounds, then you are eligible. One more thing to consider is that there are various limitations regarding the procedure that you are endure and the decision will ultimately be your surgeon’s.
The single biggest question that a candidate has to answer is a simple one regarding their long-term weight goal. These patients must understand that they are essentially creating a new way of life for themselves that will require them to still make changes the whole way up. They will almost certainly have to eat either a smaller amount or as less often per meal as they were previously. While they were once consumed 3 plates per day only, persons with the lap band “solution” (ixir) will now only be required to consume a smaller amount or 5 per day. They will also face an entirely new set of food issues, especially around the eating environment. Basically, this will involve pangs of hunger or the inability to control ones cravings for food. This is in stark contrast to how they were before the surgery.
The second thing that you must prepare yourself for is the slow weight loss rate that you will experience. This is something that you have come to expect after your surgery and which you feel is completely natural. With gastric banding there is a slower weight loss, sometimes around 1 lb. on average per week. You may experience more success on your 3rd and 4th weeks, but will get slower all the way until you are approximately 2 pounds lighter each week. This is the fundamental limit at which you can maintain the stomach pouch. If you overstep this boundary, you will become frustrated because there will be no clear evidence of stomach pouch expansion.
Therefore, if you do have the capacity to follow the instructions, you will lose weight gradually and will need to be patient to allow your body to adjust correctly. While people ask if their surgery was a failure, it is really nothing new to them if they did not attain the total weight loss goals that their surgeon was able to location. This is almost always due to not doing the proper conduct before and after the surgery.
The next aspect to consider is if you can accept the non-reversible procedure. This is a surgical procedure that is performed on a patient after he or she has already demonstrated a serious spine health problem can cross the line and can cause more issues down the road. The National Institutes of Health recommends that patients under 65 may have the surgery and those who are 75 or over may consider more alternatives. It’s always best to research this potential issue further, researching better lifestyles for you and your body. When things are left to chance, sometimes the best things are, if not treated early, then at least on the off possibility. Choose to accept the procedure as a way to educate yourself rather than therein comes with an embarrassing possibility.
